Herta Rogg arrived to Mexico after living in the US, where she practiced Iyengar yoga for a few years. Yoga was a path to health for her and finally freed her from the chronic pain caused by an accident in her youth.
By taking various yoga classes in Mexico City, she became more enthusiastic about the practice and eventually she began to teach. With the firm conviction of improving the quality of yoga teaching in our country, she invited to Mexico Senior teachers of the Method, including George Purvis, Joan White, Mary Dunn, Dean Lerner, Dona Holleman among many others. In her early years Herta rented a space within a school and later on a space inside a church.
In 2000 Iyengar Yoga Center on Mount Athos street was inaugurated, becoming the headquarters of Iyengar Yoga in Mexico City. Since the beginning Herta trained teachers for the Yoga Teacher Certification with the name: Herta Rogg Foundation. In those years, Herta trained many teachers from Mexico with excellent philosophy classes taught by Shashi DharDimri, anatomy with Dr. Irigoyen, etc.
In 2005, with the help of Margot Kitchen, Senior Teacher from Calgary, Canada, began the process towards the certification of Iyengar Method in Mexico. Finally, the first exams were carried out with the permission of BKS Iyengar in La Isla,Tepoztlán. The following year the AMYI (Mexican Association of Iyengar Yoga) was founded. The main task of this association is the dissemination of the Method in our country, through the organization of certification exams that are carried out year after year. The Iyengar Yoga Center has been the venue for these exams ever since.
In 2007, due to the return of Herta to her country of origin, Germany, Alicia Ramos became the leader of our community, since then she has been building a team of committed and enthusiastic certified teachers: Anette Sulkin, Mónica Peón, Vivian Dichi, Marta Vergara and Lorena Paez. Today, under the direction of Marta Vergara, the Iyengar Yoga Center offers online workshops and classes, as well as in-person classes, therapeutic classes and teachers’ training.
The Continue Education program includes mentoring to students through weekly classes, meetings, observation sessions, regular assistance, intensive classes and workshops with international teachers, currently we also offer weekly online sessions.
This is an exhaustive program that invites the practitioner to focus on the study of yoga teachings, anatomy, therapeutic yoga, prenatal yoga, sequencing, etc.
The Iyengar Yoga Center opens its doors to anyone who wants to enter this fascinating path of Iyengar Yoga, regardless of age, physical condition, flexibility or health.
